Welcome to the official website of the Southwest Ethiopia Agricultural Research Institute (SWEARI). Established in 2023 under the Southwest Ethiopia People Regional State Proclamation No. 27/2024, SWEARI is dedicated to advancing agricultural research and innovation in our region.

Our institute is home to two research centers strategically located to address the diverse socio-economic and agro-ecological contexts of Southwest Ethiopia. At SWEARI, we are committed to generating new and improved agricultural technologies, adapting, multiplying, and disseminating approved practices that enhance productivity and sustainability.

To date, we have developed a wide range of agricultural technologies and research recommendations, including improved crop varieties, crop protection methods, livestock management practices, natural resource management, agricultural mechanization, and innovations in food science, coffee, and tea production. We take pride in our team of young, dedicated, and multidisciplinary researchers who are passionate about ensuring food and nutrition security in Southwest Ethiopia.

We recognize that we face significant challenges such as environmental degradation, rapid population growth, low adoption of improved agricultural technologies, and the adverse impacts of climate change. Addressing these issues requires a concerted effort to focus our research strategies on sustainable resource use and the principles of sustainable development, food security, job creation, and foreign exchange generation.
