The agricultural economics research aims to improve the efficiency of research both internally and externally. Internally, it focuses on creating information that helps set research priorities based on different agricultural conditions and market demands. Externally, it quickly shares technology to enhance users’ incomes and livelihoods. This research covers production economics, agricultural marketing, rural finance, community development, and policies.
The Agricultural Technology Adoption and Impact Assessment Program works on developing effective technologies for farmers. It studies how these technologies are adopted and identifies factors that promote or hinder their use, collecting user feedback for improvements. Additionally, it measures the benefits of adopting these technologies by assessing impacts on households and economies, and modeling potential benefits of technologies not yet adopted.
The Agricultural Market and Value Chain Analysis Program evaluates how products are created and delivered to customers. It looks at the value chain to see how each participant adds value and competes in the market, generating evidence about high-value agricultural products while identifying challenges and opportunities. The program provides recommendations for policymakers to enhance value chains and improve market function.
The Agricultural Outlook and Subsector Analysis Program focuses on research priorities to address supply and demand issues for key commodities, documenting challenges and analyzing future trends for better food security and commodity exports. The Farming System Dynamics Program emphasizes suitable technologies for smallholder farms, addressing climate change challenges and improving production performance. It monitors changes and how farms adapt to climate impacts. Finally, the Agricultural Production Economics and Efficiency Analysis Program aims to increase smallholder farmers’ profitability through better resource use and provides recommendations to enhance efficiency and competitiveness while supporting new technologies. The Gender Research Program (GRP) focuses on including gender and youth issues in agricultural research and technology access for sustainable growth. It conducts gender analysis studies, supports gender mainstreaming, and collects gender-disaggregated data. The program promotes empowerment through tailored technology initiatives and coordinates with gender focal persons. GRP’s activities aim to highlight women’s roles in agriculture, improve EIAR’s work through gender-responsive measures, and ensure social inclusion during agricultural advancements.
